CARIBBEAN AMERICAN HERITAGE DAY HONOREES CEREMONY AT THE STATE CAPITOL OF GEORGIA JUNE 2025

Friday, June 6, 2025, was Caribbean American Heritage Day. I visited the Georgia State Capitol for the first time on Heritage Day to attend an award ceremony hosted by the Caribbean American Chamber of Commerce of Georgia, President, Jackie Pommells Watson.

I feel truly humbled and honored to be among the honorees. This is truly a remarkable group of Caribbean leaders, most of whom I have known or knew of for years. It was indeed more special to see some friends among the recipients.

Through Dr. Claire Nelson’s great effort, in part, President George W. Bush issued a proclamation in 2006, officially recognizing June as Caribbean American Heritage Month nationally in the USA. This month is dedicated to highlighting and celebrating the cultural heritage and achievements of Caribbean people and their descendants in various fields.

I truly had a wonderful time hanging out at the Capitol. And as always, “gratitude is a must.”

So, special thanks are due to Jackie Watson for everything she has done and continues to do all these years for our community, as well as to Senator Emanuel Jones, Representative Billy Mitchell, and Dr. Claire Nelson.
